Aidan turned sixteen months old today. It's strange to say that... just as I'm getting used to saying, "Oh, he's fifteen months old." when people ask how old he is, now I have to get used to saying "He's sixteen months old."
He continues to be my happy, funny, adventurous, mischevious, independent little boy. He asserts his independence more and more every day. He is also beginning to become more trustworthy. He knows what he should and shouldn't touch (but, believe me, he doesn't always do the right thing!). For instance, this afternoon, as I made our macaroni and cheese for lunch, I was able to let him roam around the kitchen and living room without having to put a baby gate up at either set of stairs. I also didn't have to worry about Aidan playing in the dog and cat's water or food bowls, which was nice. He'd walk right by them and point and shake his head "no." He knows better. It certainly makes my life easier.
Although, his newfound independence also makes for a nervous mommy! He HATES to hold my hand when we're out and about. Why, you ask? Well, that would mean he has to go where I want him to go! He would much rather explore things on his own. He absolutely loves to shop - his favorite store is Target, but he gets antsy in the shopping cart. He loves to walk around the aisles, pick things up, inspect them, and put them back. Usually this isn't a problem, but my little daredevil also likes to run (and he's quick!) off to another aisle, out of my sight. And, no, he doesn't get scared if he can't see me. It makes me so nervous. But, it's something we're working on.
Aidan's favorite thing to do, hands down, is play in the back yard with Noah. He loves to pick up the frisbee and "throw" it (it only goes a foot or two). Noah is usually good about "fetching" it, but he sometimes just looks at Aidan like, "Is that all you got?" =)
Aidan also enjoys his tree swing, any kind of ball you can think of (baseball, soccer, basketball, bouncy balls, etc), and books. He also enjoys visiting his big brother at the cemetery, especially when the pinwheels are spinning. He's fascinated by the pinwheels and always has to spin them when the wind is non-existent. He tries to blow on them, but he hasn't quite figured out how to do it. So, for right now, he just uses his hands to spin them.
He is becoming quite the reader, which makes me very happy. He is able to point out a number of different objects and colors. He still remains a man of few words, but his favorite words are currently: ball, ga (which is what he calls his daddy), ba-ba (which he calls Noah), mama, hi, and bye.
He takes a one hour nap every day. Exactly one hour. It's funny, no matter what time I put him down, he'll wake up exactly one hour later. For instance, yesterday, he went down at 12:10. At exactly 1:10pm, he woke up, ready for afternoon fun. I swear, he must have some sort of alarm clock set for one hour. My silly boy.
His favorite television show is, hands down, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He loves it. He also has a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse CD that we listen to in the car. He loves to dance to the music and he sometimes hums along. It's really quite adorable.
I'm excited to see what things Aidan has in store for us as he works his way to seventeen months old. They say time flies, and they're not kidding!
