First Steps (again!)

One of the Christmas gifts I received from my parents (well, my Mom specifically) was a Mother-Daughter desk calendar. Seeing as how today is the first day of a brand new year (Happy New Year!), I placed it on my desk and opened it to the first page. The first page read:

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Chinese Proverb

It's ironic that that was the quote today because Aidan took his two first official steps! (I say official because Daddy saw him take two steps a couple of weeks ago and I missed it! It's not official until Mommy sees it!) Aidan definitely prefers crawling to walking (his first (and only) steps taken before today were when Daddy witnessed them).

Alex and I were in the kitchen with Aidan, getting ready to go out to run some errands and Alex was holding onto Aidan's hands. They were both facing me and Alex let go of Aidan's hands and Aidan took two steps towards me! Of course, once he realized what he was doing, he dropped to the ground and quickly crawled over to me. But, like the quote in my calendar says, "a journey of a thousand miles begins with (just one) single step."

I'm excited to accompany Aidan on his journey of a thousand miles. And, whether he decides to wait another month (or two or three) to take those next steps, I will be there every step (or crawl!) of the way.
