We had another routine ultrasound this morning to check on the girls.
Both babies look great and Mommy is doing well, too... I'm up to a 25 pound weight gain. My blood pressure was a 120 over 50, which is a bit higher than its been, but they weren't concerned. And my fundal height (height of the uterus) measured 37 cm, which is equal to (a singleton's) 37 weeks pregnant. (Tomorrow will mark week 32 of this pregnancy).
Baby A is now completely engaged in my pelvis (maybe she's stuck!) and, according to the ultrasound technician, she is in an oblique position (not quite vertex, but not quite transverse either). Her heart rate was a strong 153 beats per minute and she weighed in at a healthy 3 pounds, 15 ounces, which is up seven ounces from two weeks ago.
Baby B is also doing very well... she's a little higher in my uterus (the ultrasound technician said that it looks like the girls have each staked claim in there!). She is still transverse (her head is also on my left side and her feet are on my right side. Her heart rate was a strong 143 beats per minute and she weighed in at a healthy 4 pounds, 5 ounces (up fourteen ounce from two weeks ago).
I asked the midwife about the frequent headaches I've been getting these past two weeks. She took a look at my blood pressure history and said that I'm probably getting headaches as my blood pressure is going down. She recommended that I eat something salty (!) and it should help. She also said Tylenol works great (but I'd really rather not take anything if I don't absolutely have to). We'll keep an eye on my blood pressure from here on out, but it doesn't look like I'm at high risk for preeclampsia (pregnancy induced hypertension), which is a good thing.
I also asked her when she thought the girls might like to make their entrance into the world (seeing as how Baby A is already engaged in my pelvis). She looked at my chart and the ultrasound results and said, "You look like one of my patients that will go PAST your due date." Yikes! She said she has a feeling that I'll go straight through to 39 weeks (when they'll do the scheduled c-section) and the girls will probably weigh between 7 and 8 lbs a piece. Ummm... ouch! I mean, I already feel like I'm carrying a ton of bricks around with me and they only weigh about 9 lbs COMBINED! So, we'll see what happens.
We are scheduled for another ultrasound (and another prenatal appointment) for two weeks from today...
